Macomb County residents have been able to continue to receive records services from the county through the “Virtual Clerk’s Office” during the COVID-19 pandemic, Clerk Fred Miller reminded Thursday.
Miller said he has been able to keep many essential county Clerk services available while also ensuring the office’s employees -- the majority of whom are working remotely -- are kept connected and productive.
“The dedicated men and women of the County Clerk and Register of Deeds offices continue to help residents through the use of a portal set up on our website, and for those who do not have access to the internet, we have an emergency phone system set up where we can accept requests and contact residents about their concerns or needs,” Miller said Thursday in a news release. “I’m very proud of my staff for operating at such a high level during the stay-at-home order.”
Clerk’s office staff operate the system remotely, with a minimum number of employees on premises to handle essential functions that cannot be performed off-site, Miller said. Residents can continue to get copies of birth, death and marriage records; assistance with deeds and land records, and quick help with Circuit Court issues, as well as copies of court records.
During the first two weeks of the program, Miller and his staff have answered over 1,500 requests through the Virtual Clerk’s Office.
“Most of our service requests are answered within 15 minutes, and we are able to provide links to information, forms and other web sites immediately,” Miller said. “Residents who do not have access to online services are provided immediate help where they can make requests for information over the phone or through the U.S. Mail.”
The Elections Department of the Clerk’s Office can accept candidates’ filings electronically or through the mail, with the ability to receive candidates’ filing fees on the Clerk’s Office web site.
“We’ve already accepted filings and filing fees for the August Primary Election remotely,” Miller said.
